Job Description:
OverviewLabConnect improves lives by partnering with
pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and clinical research
organizations (CROs) to accelerate the development of new medicines
around the world.We are an independent, global, one-stop-shop
focused on delivering Central Laboratory Services that are
tailor-made, timely and flexible to meet the evolving study demands
of traditional to increasingly complex trials. Additionally, we
provide Functional Service Provider (FSP) Solutions, supporting our
clients with scientific and technical expertise, acting as an
extension of their team, coordinating all laboratory related needs,
advising on strategies for lab data collection and providing
end-to-end analytical and logistical solutions.As a key member of
the Executive Management team, the Chief Financial Officer will
report to the President and CEO and be responsible for directing
the company's financial vision to support successful company
operations and drive growth and profitability. The CFO will have
primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing,
managing and controlling all financial-related activities of the
company. This will include direct responsibility for accounting,
finance, forecasting, strategic planning, job costing, legal,
property management, deal analysis and negotiations, investor
relationships and partnership compliance, and private and
institutional financing. As a critical member of the executive
management team, the CFO is actively involved in strategic decision
making and operation policy.Essential Duties and Other
Responsibilities:
- Assess and evaluate financial performance of organization with
regard to long term operational goals, budgets and forecasts.
- Provide insight/recommendations into short term and long term
growth of organization.
- Identify, acquire and implement systems and software to provide
critical financial and operational information.
- Evaluate departments and make suggestion for automating
processes and increasing working efficiency.
- Communicate, engage and interact with Board of Directors, CEO,
and Executive Leadership Team.
- Create and establish yearly financial objectives that align
with the company's plan for growth and expansion.
- Recruit, interview and hire finance, and accounting staff as
required.
- Evaluate the Finance Department organization for high
accountability and team plan for continual improvement of the
efficiency and effectiveness of the group.
- Serve as a key member of executive leadership team and round
table discussion panel.
- Participate in pivotal decisions as they relate to strategic
initiatives and operational models.
- Interact with and bring department into line with Board of
Directors plans initiatives and recommendations.
- Prepare and present monthly financial budgeting reports;
monthly profit and loss by division, forecast vs. budget by
division and weekly cash flow by division.
- Review and analyze monthly financial results and provide
recommendations.
- Identify, develop and execute analysis of business initiatives,
product launches and/or new service offerings.
- Develop and maintain monthly operating budget and annual
company operating budget.
- Manage financial planning and analysis department. Supervise
creation of reports, software implementation and tools for
budgeting and forecasting.
- Oversee the preparation and communication of weekly, monthly
and annual financial statements.
- Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all local, state
and federal tax returns.
- Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls,
SOX compliance and financial procedures.
- Work with Human Resources to ensure appropriate legal
compliance.
- Review all month-end closing activities including general
ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts and overhead cost
allocation.
- Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems,
processes, tools and control systems.
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; Manage
preparation and support of all external audits.
- Supervise the accounting department to ensure the proper
functioning of all systems, databases and financial software.
Provide regular maintenance and backup of all accounting systems;
supervise company financial staff.
- Utilize forward-looking models and activity-based analyses to
provide financial insight into the organization's plans and
operating budgets.
- Establish credibility throughout the organization and with the
Board as an effective developer of solutions to business
challenges, especially growth in revenues and
profitability.Education/Experience/Skills Required:
- BS in Accounting or Finance, MBA and/or CPA highly desirable as
well as related clinical trial industry experience and/or training,
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior finance position.
- Instinctive ability to be a strategic business partner with the
CEO, Executive Team, and Board of Directors.
- Strategic Leader with a deep mastery of core financial
concepts, including reporting, client/channel profitability
analysis, revenue recognition, financial modeling, treasuring, and
forecasting.
- Demonstrated experience in integrating and coordinating diverse
areas of management.
- Significant experience working with external auditors, internal
controls and compliance related issues.
- Successful implementation controls, processes, and risk
management initiatives including supporting systems to manage
operational and financial performance.
- Thrives in environments undergoing growth, with proven track
record of creating strong finance infrastructure.
- Strong capabilities managing capital, including debt and equity
financing.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, vet, and make recommendations
regarding capital allocations, business expansion and
organizational development requirements and opportunities.
- Exceptional business prioritization skills and bias for
action.
- Proven CFO leadership experience and understanding of the
complexities involved in building high performance teams for
rapidly growing, international businesses.
- Strong ability to manage expectations and prioritize needs of
competing interests.
- Highly organized, able to manage and maintain many activities
