University Health System seeks to hire a ED Tech I - who will

Profile:The Emergency Department at Duke Regional Hospital is a
newly renovated Emergency Department comprised of 79 total beds,
which includes: 49 beds for the Emergency Medicine unit, 12 beds
Clinical Decision Unit, and an18 bed Behavioral Health Unit. - Our
team is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to
ensure an excellent patient experience, every time. -Schedule3 - 12
hour shifts per weekShifts Available: Nights - -Duties and
Responsibilities of this Level
- Participate in patient care interventions and personal care
procedures for patients. Perform approved dressings and wound care
for NCA level; participate in nutritional activities; assist with
personal hygiene; assist with ambulation; assist with bowel and
bladder elimination; assist with Foley and Straight Catheters;
provide such additional care as required to meet the personal needs
and comfort of assigned patients.
- Perform CPR.
- Function as patient attendant for patients who have been
identified as high risk for injury or suicide.
- Prepare patients, equipment, and supplies for specific
procedures and provide manual assistance as required.
- Collect, deliver, and conduct routine tests on patient
specimens.
- Escort or transport patients that do not require any
hemodynamic monitoring.
- Clean assigned area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment
as required.
- Maintain readiness of HAZMAT Room. Provide assistance during
hazmat decontamination procedures.
- Perform a variety of EKG technician tasks as required,
including routine and STAT EKGs, order verification and electronic
transmission of EKGs, accommodation of special EKG requests, i.e.,
with or without a magnet or right-sided EKG tracings, the stocking
and maintenance of EKG machines, and the retrieval of old EKGs from
the Heart Station.
- Perform a variety of Health Unit Coordinator (EDUC) tasks.
Tasks might include, but are not limited to, operate and
trouble-shoot office equipment; maintain organization of the
assigned desk; manage lab specimens and orders; enter orders into
the computer; answer the telephone and/or patient signals. In
addition, assist with patient registration, admission, transfer and
discharge.
- Perform adult, isolated venipuncture for collection of routine
blood specimens and blood cultures.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described
herein. -Required QualificationsEducation:Work requires graduation
from an accredited high school or a GED. Successful completion of
the NCA I training as defined by the Division of Facility Services
in the State of North Carolina or North Carolina EMT training.Work
requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written
instructions. -Experience:Related experience preferred but not
required. -Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:Current minimum
listing as an NCA I with the Division of Facility Services or
current minimum credential as EMT with no substantiated findings of
abuse, fraud, neglect or misappropriation of property.BLS Required
-Preferred Qualifications:
- Work requires the ability to understand and follow oral and
written instructions.
- One year of related health care experience as an NCA, ED Tech,
EMT, or equivalent, and must be able to perform EKGs, Foley and
Straight Catheters.
- Current minimum listing as an NCA II with the Division of
Facility Services or current minimum certification credential as
Advanced EMT EMT-B with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud,
neglect or misappropriation of property. -
- BLS Preferred -Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Heavy lifting and the ability to transport stretcher and
wheelchair patients to various hospital locations are
required.
- This person must be able to provide care and services to all
patients from birth to the elderly.
- The must have excellent prioritization skills in addition to
their basic knowledge and skills.
- They must be able to work in a fast-paced unpredictable
environment under very stressful conditions.
- They must be able to be trained in all aspects of hazmat
decontamination procedures.
- This person must be very goal-directed with a great deal of
initiative since they function at a very independent level within
the Emergency Department.
- They must demonstrate competency validation in skills and
knowledge for performance of roles and responsibilities. - Duke is
